Sailing School and Aquatics 

BSYC is an accredited Discover Sailing Centre staffed only by specialist qualified instructors. All courses meet national industry standards. Our aim is to introduce kids and adults to the sport of sailing, in a safe and enjoyable on water environment. Our courses include:

Tackers Courses for 7-12 year olds

Tackers is a fun based introductory sailing program for kids aged 7-12 years old. All equipment is supplied including the boats. Courses are 20 hours and run on weekend mornings or during school holidays.

Adult Learn to Sail Courses

A two day weekend or three Sundays An intro to dinghy sailing for beginners. Covers basic  boat handling skills and essential safety knowledge. Enjoy the thrill of harnessing the winds power and being in control.  

Tackers is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7 to 12 delivered at recognised Tackers Clubs. Kids need no experience nor membership to participate.  It's fun, safe and a great introduction to the sport of sailing. Adult Learn To Sail Weekends

This START SAILING course is recommended to anyone wishing to learn to sail an off the beach sailing dinghy. The course will allow participants the freedom of sailing dinghies with the guidance of a qualified instructors. We aim to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to dinghy sailing for complete beginners plus a good look at how the club operates on weekends. $375pp and content includes:

  • Rigging and launching a dinghy
  • Sailing on all angles and around a course
  • Capsize retrieval and rescue techniques
  • Sailing theory and rigging
  • Types of boats and equipment

The BETTER SAILING course is for those people who have completed Start Sailing and would like to become more confident sailing our Club 420s on a regular race day. We encourage all participants to take on stronger winds, improve their technique and progress towards regular Saturday racing. Courses run on our regular Adult Learn to Sail Weekends, Saturday 1:30pm - 5pm and Sunday 10am-5pm cost is $275 and content includes:

  • Better use of the tiller extension
  • Learn to use spinnaker & trapeze
  • Better tacks and gybes
  • Expedition sail, to the jetty and back
  • Faster sailing around a course
  • More sailing theory, sail trim and fine tuning

Aquatics School Holiday Program 2020

The BSYC Aquatics School Holiday Program runs for two weeks in January. Activities include Sailing, Windsurfing, Snorkelling and Paddling plus a number of cool beach games and activities. The main emphasis is on being active, having fun and doing so safely. Teamwork, respect for each other and the environment are also a big focus of the program. The program is aimed at kids aged 8 to 14 years old and no prior experience is necessary. Kids will rotate through all activities but will also get the opportunity to choose activities and pick their favorites. Weather conditions will also affect which activities run on any given day. Some indoor activities will be included to break up long days in the sun.

COST per child $375 (family discounts available)     EARLYBIRD SPECIAL $355 (until 31st October)


  • WEEK ONE - Monday 6th to Friday 10th January, 930am - 3pm each day
  • WEEK TWO - Monday 13th to Friday 17th January, 9:30am - 3pm each day

Qualifed Staff. All instructors are qualified with certificates issued by Australian Sailing, Australian Underwater Federation and Canoe SA. Instructors are First Aid qualified and have completed all working with children checks. Activities are run based on national standards put out by the governing bodies and a strict risk management plan has been implemented for the program. Capsize drills, snorkelling and swimming activities are all done in shallow water close to shore.

What to Bring. All kids should bring a packed lunch, a snack and a water bottle which can be refilled with filtered water at the club. Appropriate attire includes shorts and t shirt or rashie, longsleeves is best. Kids should be wearing footwear especially on the beach and around the club. Bare feet are ok in boats, on boards and when swimming. A short wetsuit is a good idea for cooler days and we will have a few spares to loan. We will provide all aquatics equipment including PFDs,helmets, boats, boards and paddles.

BSYC is located at the southern end of the Esplanade at Seacliff, approximately 30 minutes south of Adelaide’s CBD. Looking over the Gulf of St Vincent , BSYC is relatively sheltered at the foot of Marino Rocks and we are directly beside Kingston Caravan Park and serviced by both train and bus.

Getting here from Adelaide CBD

Take Anzac Highway and turn left onto Brighton Road. Turn right onto Jetty Road at Brighton and then left onto The Esplanade and keep going until you reach the public car park.

Getting here from Eastern Suburbs

Take Goodwood Road and then Main South Road. Turn right onto Seacombe Rd. Turn left onto Brighton Road and then immediately right onto Wheatland Street. At The Esplanade turn left until you reach the car park

Getting here from the south

From Hallett Cove go north on Ocean Boulevard and turn left onto Wheatland Street. At the Esplanade turn left until you reach the car park. Otherwise go north on the Expressway or Main South Road and turn left onto Seacombe then Brighton Road and Wheatland Road.
