Junior Commodore's Report

Hi everyone! The juniors have had some good racing and some fun too over the past month...

10th Dec - Club Championship
Today we had a steady wind of approx. 15 knots all day, and we had 17 Optis racing! There was a mix of green fleeters as well as the usual open fleet kids.

17th Dec - Christmas party!
Today was a very exciting day for the juniors - Father Christmas came to the yacht club! Everyone was very excited to see him come ashore in the duck with his fleet of Opti "reindeers"! Once Santa was ashore all the kids were given a present and then the feast began! In the afternoon we had a trophy race with a very small fleet (I think everyone else may have eaten a bit too much at the party and wasn't feeling up to a race!). It was quite windy and choppy so we had a few capsizes too.

Hi everyone! The past weeks have been lots of fun for the juniors, with quite a few regattas and some club racing too.

5th - 6th Nov - Youth Tri Series 1
The first round of the Youth Tri Series was held at ASC. On the first day we got 3 races in the morning, but the wind completely dropped out in the afternoon so we were all towed back in! On the second day it was a bit foggy in the morning, but we had good wind all day and got 6 races in. In the end Matt Meaney and Alex Higgins came 1st and 2nd, and all the other BSYC kids did a great job too!

12th Nov - Mucking around...
The juniors headed out for a fun race this arvo, but about half way through the wind completely died! We were all towed in and then went for a swim!

19th - 20th Nov - Youth Tri Series 2
The second Tri Series regatta was held at our club, and we had perfect conditions all weekend, getting a full 12 races in. Wins were shared by Alex and Matt all weekend, with Alex Higgins 1st, Matt Meaney 2nd and Joal Mackenzie 3rd overall. In the green fleet made of 13 sailors, Josh Tonkin came 1st, Harry Mitton came 2nd and Huwan Leibbrandt came 3rd.

Well done to everyone, especially those doing their first regatta!

26th Nov - Club Championship
Today was quite windy and wavy, and we had 10 starters and 5 finishers. One green fleeter, Josh Tonkin, was out on the water and stayed out there for the whole race! It was a pretty rough day but everyone gave it their best go.

3rd - 4th Dec - Youth Tri Series 3
The third and final round of the Youth Tri Series was hosted by Largs Bay Sailing Club. On the morning of the first day the Optis got four races in, but it was a bit too windy to sail in the afternoon. On the second day all of the morning racing was postponed due to shifty wind, but two Opti races were sailed in the afternoon. The end results were Matt Meaney in 1st place, Alex Higgins 2nd and Joal Mackenzie 3rd. In the green fleet Josh Tonkin came 1st, Huwan Leibbrandt came 2nd and young Ben Hinks came 3rd! Good job guys!
