Sail Melbourne

by Chelsea Higgins

On Thursday in the morning I (Chelsea), went to Melbourne for sailing with Alex, Mum, Dad, Matt, Josh, Andrew and Martin. We drove all day and took Mummy's boat (The Gill) and 4 Optis. When we got there we went to our cousins (Henry and Charlie) and uncle Jono and Cassie's house in Port Melbourne and then we went to the yacht club, that is called Sandringham Yacht Club. It was very nice. We unpacked our boats and set them up and then all went out to dinner. I had a chicken schnitzel and pink lemonade and Henry was running around and was funny.

Next day - Friday. First we went to the club and rigged up our boats and then got changed into our sailing gear. It was a nice sunny day. We soon went out sailing and did 3 races. I came 12th in the first race, in the second race I came 12th again and then I came 16th. There were 22 boats I think. There were lots of other classes there sailing too and the Olympic boats were there, I liked the 470 and the 49er. Then we came in and we played around the yacht club and in all the speed boats and I accidently fell in the water, it was funny because I was in my clothes. Then Josh and Matt came to our house and we went for a walk with Jono's crazy dog Stella and we had a BBQ for dinner.

Next Day - Saturday. Today we had to get up early at 6am and get ready for sailing because the race started at 9am. We went out sailing but there wasn't much wind and I came 9th. Then the other two races got cancelled, not sure why and then we came in and packed up our boats. Then Mum took us kids out in the powerboat and we watched the gold medal 470 race and the Aussie guys won, we were all cheering for them as they sailed past. My Dad knew the crew Malcolm Page (and Mum too) and he has won a gold medal at the Olympics and they asked if the kids wanted to sail in on the boat with them? We all went crazy and then we all jumped in the boat and sailed with them to the shore, it was so excellent and they were really nice. I think I might get a 470. We went to the yacht club and got hot chips and lemonade and saw a massive tiger snake off the balcony. Someone called a snake catcher and it was awesome. Then all these models started to come to the yacht club and it was funny. We watched the Olympic sailors get their medals. After that we went home and then we went for a walk with Stella and had pizza for dinner. Then we watched Happy Feet.

Next day - Sunday. We drove back home to Adelaide and it took 9 hours. Bye.
