Holdfast Trainers and Optimists

Most young sailors at BSYC start off sailing either the 2 man Holdfast Trainer or the singlehanded Optimist. As they reach their early teens the tendency is to either progress to a two man 303 or Cadet before progressing a little later to a 420. Single handers may wish to progress from an Opti to a Laser.

SINGLE HANDED BOATS

Laser

The Laser is a single-handed racing dinghy used by both adults and juniors and is an Olympic class boat.

Optimist

The International Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by children up to the age of 15.

TWO HANDED BOATS

Holdfast Trainer

The Holdfast Trainer is a South Australian sailing dinghy designed for junior sailors and is an ideal first dinghy.

International Cadet

The Cadet is a junior class of boat sailed by two children aged 8 to 17 years. The boat provides a three sail experience.

International 420

The International 420 is an established worldwide performance two person trapeze and spinnaker racing dinghy.
