The B&SYC Optimist sailors are having a great time at the Australian Championship in Queensland. Check out what they're up to at www.optisa.org.au
Emma
Now that we have an ever growing junior fleet, second biggest in the club, maybe it's time for B&SYC to register for the Good Sports program (http://www.goodsports.com.au/sa/news/) to establish responsible practices in relation to serving alcohol especially with so many kids present on Saturdays.
Club Commodore
Hi Emma, thank you for your enquiry, I will have to bring this up at the next
committee meeting in January 2012. This would be better discussed with the
whole Management Committee.
Kind regards
Tony

A few weeks ago I asked a few club officials why the cost of mixed drinks (e.g. Bundaberg and Cola) was so much higher at BSYC than anywhere else. At the time they cost $9.50 per can ... at Somerton Yacht Club they cost $4 and at the Canberra Yacht Club they cost $3.50 ... most pubs sell them for around $6 - $8 each. I have not got an answer to my question yet but I have noticed the price of a can of Bundy has now gone UP to $10.
Club Commodore
Hello Adrian. Your mail has been passed on to me and as an occasional Bundy and Cola drinker I do sympathise with you. It costs us $3.69 (ex GST) to buy a can of Bundy and Cola so a sale price of $10 gives us an industry normal margin of 63%. Somerton and Canberra are either making a loss (remember, the cost of service and staff need to be added) or are buying a cheaper, mid strength product...and still making a loss!
However, I shall discuss the pricing of our pre mixers with the Management Committee and revert to you ASAP. Neil Mackenzie, MANAGER

We have just moved to Brighton and took the opportunity to have dinner at your club on Friday night. The view was spectacular and the members and staff were very friendly. The dinner was good, I was wondering if you would consider adding a BBQ menu to a Friday night? Also have you considered open on Sunday for breakfast?
General Manager
Hi Michael,
Welcome to Brighton! I'm so glad you enjoyed our dining experience last Friday. I like the idea of having a BBQ one Friday night instead of our usual menu and I will discuss it with our catering manager. We did try Sunday breakfasts a year ago for a few weeks but they were uneconomical but there is a case for trying them again next summer. In the meantime, I have put you onto our e-mailing list so you will get regular updates on what's going on at the Club. Our bar is open every day from 4.30 to 7.30 so we might see you down here for a beer!

Im just enquiring as to whether your weather equipment (anemometer etc) can be accessed on the net or if there are moves afoot to do so. This is because Im too lazy to come and see for myself before hooking the boat up and finding it's too rough to launch
Club Commodore
Hi Rob, We have discussed the logistics of getting the weather information directly to the web site - both data and pictures. It is, as you know, possible and has already been suggested by (NS14 sailor) Adrian Adams of Jaba who designed the site. We are now discussing the relative costs of doing it so maybe if you drink a few more beers in the Mariners we be able to do it next season!
